The Human Brain Coloring Book provides a means of learning about the structure and function of the human brain, through a process of coloring-by-directions (directed coloring). It was developed by internationally recognized neuroscientists and teachers marian C. Diamond and Arnold B. Scheibel in association with highly acclaimed teacher and anatomist Lawrence M. Elson, creator of Coloring Concepts, this book is designed for a wide range of users: informal learners, students of psychology and the biological sciences, medical, dental, nursing, and other healthp rofessional students, and students and workers in the neurosciences. The unique, highly developed coloring process makes this book an effective learning device for such a diverse audience. The material included here represents the state-of-the-art knowledge about the brain and how it works. Each plate of illustrations has been carefully designed to yield maximum information when colored. The accompanying text has been creatively integrated with the coloring process to enhance understanding and retention.Marian C. Diamond, Ph.D., is a Professor of Anatomy at the University of California at Berkeley. She teaches general human anatomy and neuroanatomy and has conducted numerous lines of research into the effect of the environment and hormones on the forebrain. Dr. Diamond is perhaps best known for her investigations into structural changes in the cerebral cortex induced by an enriched environment and structural lateralization of the cortex as influenced by sex steroid hormones.

Great for structural Neuroscience review Love it. The information presented in this book ranges from what you see on the front cover, the 4 basic lobes and entry level material that is at a middle school content level, to plates that would be useful for a practitioner to review. That being said, the material presented goes from simple to complex in a very straightforward and well thought out manner. Personally, I would prefer that each area you are to color was given a specific color associated with it (as you get to choose which colors go where) but overall I am highly satisfied with my purchase - BUT for some the material may be difficult. If you are in a Neuro program (BA,BS,MS,MA,PhD,MD) looking for a fun way to review structure, do it.While really fun, I was hoping to solidify my understanding of ... While really fun, I was hoping to solidify my understanding of brain anatomy. The idea behind the book is to do this by coloring each part of the brain the same color in various images from different perspectives (i.e. the medulla from a lateral view and also from a ventral view.) Problem is, the instructions aren't always clear. I'm reasonably knowledgeable about neuroanatomy, but not a neurologist or neuroscientist so maybe if I knew more about it, the instructions would make more sense. Of course, then I wouldn't need the book. There are some fairly comprehensive summaries accompanying the pictures as well.gorgeous book with very detailed drawings I'm learning so much neuroanatomy through this book! The paper is thick and they cover not just the brain but the CNS and parts of the ANS (like the vagus nerve and other cranial nerves). I've always been tripped up by all the nuclei neuroanatomy (globus pallidus internal / globus pallidus external etc etc) but this book makes me want to color my way through medical school
