Perhaps the perfect children's bedtime book, Goodnight Moon is a short poem of goodnight wishes from a young rabbit preparing for--or attempting to postpone--his own slumber. He says goodnight to every object in sight and within earshot, including the "quiet old lady whispering hush." Clement Hurd's illustrations are simple and effective, alternating between small ink drawings and wide, brightly colored views of the little rabbit's room. Finding all of the items mentioned throughout the book within the pictures is a good bedtime activity--a reappearing little mouse is particularly pesky. By the end of the little rabbit's goodnight poem, the story has quieted to a whisper, and the drawings have darkened with nightfall. Missing "the cow jumping over the moon" and "the three little bears" The copy I received was a board book missing the second page. It doesn't appear to have been ripped out, just forgotten during manufacturing. But it's obvious in a book everybody has memorized.Nite Nite Received promptly and packaged well. My grandchild loves this book. She feels the texture and runs her fingers on the pages as I read.She sits patiently and listens as I read the story with a soft and comforting tone so she can wind down. It's a fun book with a super soft cover & velcro closure.Today, she picked the book up and jabbered as if she was reading the book to me. It was beyond adorable. When she was finished reading her book she tossed it on the sofa.When she came here today I threw my arms in the air and said, "Yay." several times. She did that before she left. It was adorable.I handed her the book so she could take it home. And she laid her head on my chest. I do know that she was read the book before she was rocked and bottle fed tonight.Highly recommend.Top book to read with my boy There's not much that hasn't been said about this timeless book. All I can say is I had never heard of it until my wife got pregnant and I began looking into books for babies/toddlers. This was at the top of my list after researching, and I'm so happy to have purchased it. The art, wording, alternating black and white with color pages, and storyline are wonderful. It engages my son, he loves looking at the bunnies, and it truly is a calming book for everyone before bedtime. This was written over 60 years ago, so it makes you feel a bit like you're in a bygone era. Simplicity, values, family and education are all focused on in this book. We've been reading it weekly for the past 20 months, and will continue to do so for another 40! I highly recommend this book, along with other Margaret Wise Brown books.
